ACT clutch installed!

After putting it off for a really really long time (I think I first noticed my clutch slipping in November), I finally got my ACT clutch installed. It's a heavy duty pressure plate and a performance disc (street/strip). I opted to keep the stock flywheel (resurfaced) because funds don't currently allow a lightened flywheel.

I love the way the copper "fibers" look on the disc. . . too bad you can't see any of that after the install.

The pedal feel is great. . . it pops back out with a vengeance. Engagement is silky smooth. Absolutely no hint of clutch chatter or harsh engagement. I do drive with a little bit of clutch slip though. I'll probably baby the clutch for the first 250-300 miles to make sure the surfaces seat properly. I can't wait to beat on it!!

Overall, this is my second ACT clutch. I've also owned a Clutchmasters Stage II in the past. I'm pro-ACT all the way!

Did you do the install yourself? If so, was it a pain in the A$$ to do?

No. Unfortunately, I don't think that this would have been something that I could've handled.

I Love my HDSS, it seems plenty stout for my set-up, we'll see how the Z10's do next. HeHeh!!

217, did the 2 1/2" Carsound make a difference?

Im putting my ACT clutch in this weekend, I hope it goes well. How long do I have to go easy on it? I put about 110 miles on her a day.

ACT recommends between 200-300 miles. As long as it's not all freeway driving, you'll be fine. For the time being, I'm trying not to drive at full throttle and I'm using a little bit of clutch slip in 1st gear.

Streetwize:

The 2.5" Carsound did not seem to make any difference in performance, as I had a 2.25" test-pipe before that. Although I can say that my top-end performance did improve when I changed from my stock cat. to the test-pipe.

As for sound, I LOVE the 2.5" Carsound. The exhaust note is definately deeper than stock, and the annoying rattle that I had from the test-pipe is now gone.

I got mine for $99.95 (shipped) from testpipe.com. They were able to make flared ends so that I could attach it to a stock exhaust and stock exhaust manifold.

So the break-in period is over! I beat on my clutch a little yesterday and a little more today (just to get a feel for the grip). I am VERY happy.

Raced a stock (new) Mustang (not GT). I don't know what he was thinking. Must've thought that I would've been a pushover. Granny shifting to 2nd @ 3500 rpms, I had 2 car lengths on him by the 6500 rpm in 2nd. End of that race. Hehe.

Going uphill today, I decided to test out first gear. Needless to say, I was losing tractin as the rpms started to rise! Man, it's been a looong time since that happened. Definately loving this clutch!! [img]smile.gif[/img]
